A fiscal slip is an invoice that we receive when making a purchase, and on which each individual transaction of retail goods or services to natural persons is recorded, and which is paid by cash, check or card.
The fiscal invoice serves as proof to the competent authorities and citizens that the tax has been calculated and recorded for a certain purchase, as well as a guarantee to the buyer that he can request a refund or exchange of goods in the event of an error or defect. The invoice is issued in at least two copies, one of which is kept by the invoice issuer, and the other belongs to the customer.
The taxpayer who issues the fiscal invoice is obliged to print and issue the fiscal invoice, regardless of whether the user of the service requests it or not. The regulations stipulate that the customer does not have to pay for the goods or services if he does not receive an invoice, but also that he is obliged to take the fiscal invoice, keep it immediately after leaving the store or other business premises and show it at the inspector's request.

According to surveys of citizens' attitudes about the gray economy from September 2017, almost every third citizen of Serbia does not know how to recognize a correct fiscal invoice and more than a fifth of them claim that they would report a facility that did not issue them a fiscal invoice. As reasons for asking for an invoice, the citizens mostly cited compliance with the law, exercising the right to a guarantee, as well as proof that taxes have been paid.
